Borregaard offers bio-based, sustainable and innovative thickeners and dispersants for multiple water-based paint, ink and coating systems.
Additives for Paints & Coatings
Borregaard's Exilva® Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) is a 100% bio-based and infinitely sustainable, multifunctional low shear thickener with minimal impact on mid and high shear.
Exilva can help customers solve typical technical challenges related to formulating waterborne coatings and replace current synthetic additives to reduce the CO2 footprint and increase bio-based content in their products. These challenges include:
- Mud-cracking
- Sedimentation
- Settling
- Syneresis
- Sag & levelling
- Low strength
- Low shear viscosity
In addition to the technical benefits, Exilva enables to increase the commercial and competitive value of the coatings by impacting the applicability, drying and final properties of the coating. By applying Exilva into the formulation, one can apply one thick layer instead of two layers, without any fear of sagging, mud cracking nor slow drying. This can be turned into higher productivity and savings in manpower.
Borregaard’s sustainable dispersants are used in a wide range of applications to modify the rheology of aqueous systems for both organic and inorganic pigments, like carbon black, iron oxides and titanium dioxide.
Our lignin biopolymers help you increase milling efficiency and solids loading of water-based systems. These bio-based dispersants control the rheology of your pigments for paint systems and inks for textile printing. They offer good viscosity control by modifying dispersion rheology when used alone or in combination with other dispersants.
