Sustainable rheology modifier for self-compacting concrete

Borregaard's cellulose fibrils product Exilva® can play a key role in maintaining the stability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) by reducing the segregation and bleeding of these mix designs whilst at the same time maintaining the cohesiveness and homogeneity of them. Additional benefits, such as improved workability and sustainability, make Exilva a desirable additive for SCC.

Benefits offered:

  • Enhanced stability and cohesion
  • Improved workability
  • Rheological benefits
  • Sustainable/Environmentally friendly

Enhanced stability and cohesion

The addition of Exilva prevents segregation and bleeding, ensuring uniform distribution of the components and reducing the risk of particle settlement creating a more homogenous SCC mix design.

Improved workability

Exilva acts as a natural viscosity modifying admixture improving the handling and workability of the SCC without the loss of flow. This allows SCC mix designs to be placed more easily into formworks reducing the labour requirements and potential damage of the formworks during building projects.

Rheological benefits

The shear-thinning properties of concrete mix designs containing Exilva as well as their non-sticky characteristics allow for SCC mix designs to easily fill intricate formwork and flow around congested reinforcement without the need for mechanical vibration.

Sustainable/Environmentally friendly

Exilva is a sustainable alternative that will help reduce the CO2 footprint of SCC mix designs, providing a more climate friendly concrete for the end user.
