A life cycle analysis (LCA) conducted on Marasperse® AG and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) when used for plant nutrition, concluded that Marasperse AG is the more sustainable alternative.
NORSUS, Norway’s leading independent research institute for LCA and other environmental impact analyses, performed this study in 2019. The LCA includes seven impact categories.
NORSUS concluded that by replacing EDTA with Borregaard’s complexing biopolymer Marasperse AG (see dosages in the figure below) for application of Zn & Mn to tangerines, you can reduce CO2 emissions by 90%.
Example: if an area the size of farmland in Wisconsin replaces EDTA with Marasperse AG, CO2 emissions are reduced equivalent to the emissions of 33 000 cars per year or 153 000 flights from London to New York and back.
