The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of national and county road networks in Norway. It has been using Dustex® for dust suppression of gravel roads for decades. Here is a summary of their experience and conclusions:*
Customer reference: Dustex for dust suppression of gravel roads
- Dust binding effect increases over time: Dustex binds well in the gravel matrix and winters well. This results in a better gravel course, including in bare ground periods during milder winters.
- The gravel in the road binds together effectively, and gravel loss to the environment through dusting and leaching is only minor.
- The road achieves a solid surface with limited need for maintenance grading throughout the summer.
- Problems associated with softening, poor accessibility and damage to the gravel course during the frost heaving period are reduced.
- Environmentally friendly material
- Gentle on equipment, non-corrosive
- Durable in prolonged periods of precipitation, limited leaching.
- Build-up over time ensures a strong gravel course surface suitable as a base course should the road be asphalted.
