Dustex has earned the usda certified biobased product label

The Borregaard product Dustex has earned the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label, with 100% biobased content.

Dustex is based on lignin, the natural binder of wood fibres in trees. Just as it holds wood fibres together, it also effectively binds soil particles.  When applied to unpaved roads, it reduces dust and holds the aggregate, thus increasing road safety, reducing road maintenance costs and producing a better-quality road. The product can replace petrochemical alternativesfor dust suppression and reduces the need for watering by up to 90%.

“Borregaard takes pride in being able to offer sustainable and environmentally friendly products with a low carbon footprint to displace oil-based products in a variety of applications including dust control. This label allows us to showcase these benefits and highlight that our product is 100 percent biobased,” says Steve Dickman, Business Director Dust Solutions at Borregaard.

Third-party verification for a product’s biobased content is administered through the USDA BioPreferred® Program. One of the goals of the BioPreferred Program is to increase the development, purchase and use of biobased products.

The USDA Certified Biobased Product label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Biobased products have played an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global climate change.

"We applaud Borregaard for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label. Products from Borregaard are contributing to an ever-expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum," says Kate Lewis at the USDA BioPreferred Program.
