Maren (28) joined Borregaard's trainee program in 2021 after completing her master's studies at NTNU in Trondheim. In August, she puts on her lab coat and will be based at Borregaard's research center in Sarpsborg.
During the trainee program, Maren gained work experience in several departments and fields, actively participating in various projects.
"After being a trainee for two years, I was willing to work almost anywhere in the organization. I had a fantastic experience in the different business areas I worked in, but I am very pleased to have secured a position in the research department," Maren explains.
Despite her hometown, Aldersundet in Nordland, being far away, the opportunity to work in the world's most advanced biorefinery was one Maren did not want to miss.
Borregaard's trainee program spans two years, during which participants rotate through three different areas: research, production, and the commercial department. For Maren, it began with a year in research, where she had the chance to be part of various innovation projects. She then moved on to production and finally the commercial department.
"At the end of my first year as a trainee, I had the opportunity to intern at one of Borregaard's factories in the USA, specifically in Rothschild, Wisconsin. It was a unique experience that I wouldn't trade for anything," she emphasizes.
When it comes to finding one's future workplace, it's not just about the professional aspects and location. According to Maren, the company's culture also plays a significant role in whether one chooses to stay.
"I thought my student days were the best, and I didn't have high expectations for the social aspect of work life, but the environment at Borregaard is incredibly supportive. We look out for each other and invite each other to various activities. There are many young people around my age here, so there's always something happening. It couldn't have been better, really," concludes Maren.
