Opened new sales office and laboratories in Mumbai
Wednesday 17 September marked the official opening of Borregaard’s new office in Mumbai – an important milestone in the company’s commitment and growth in Asia.
The ribbon was cut by Norway’s Consul General in Mumbai, Monica Nagelgaard. Hosting the event were Managing Director Borregaard South Asia, Srikanth Kalahasti, and Director BioSolutions, Knut-Harald Bakke. Among the guests were local customers, employees, and global representatives from Borregaard.
Borregaard has had an office in Mumbai since 1999, which over the years has developed into an important hub for the company’s activities in South Asia. With increased staffing and the need for additional testing laboratories, Borregaard South Asia has now moved into brand-new, larger premises.
A key strategic investment
Establishing a stronger presence in Asia represents an important strategic step for Borregaard. The central location in Mumbai ensures proximity to growing markets and provides greater insight and presence in the region. The office will serve customers and partners throughout South Asia, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
“With a local presence we can respond more quickly to customer needs, strengthen collaboration, and develop new solutions across our product portfolio,” says Knut-Harald Bakke.
Expertise and laboratories
Today, the Mumbai office has 27 employees working in sales, R&D, customer service, accounting, and finance. The office also houses three specialised research laboratories focusing on concrete admixtures, plant nutrition, and industrial applications.
“The research laboratories provide important support to Borregaard’s research centre in Sarpsborg, to the company’s global lignin business, and to our customers across Asia,” emphasises Srikanth Kalahasti.
India – an engine of the world economy
India is both a rapidly growing regional market and one of the key driving forces in the global economy. With more than 1.4 billion inhabitants and a young, dynamic workforce, the country has positioned itself as a global hub for innovation, technology, and manufacturing.
In sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and renewable energy, India is increasingly shaping the global value chains of the future.
