SHRIMP FEED INNOVATION: Sustainable Binder with processing benefits
Shrimp feed producers face constant pressure to improve pellet water stability, maintain feed conversion efficiency, and meet evolving regulations. Traditional binders like PMC can provide stability — however, concerns have been raised about their use due to the potential release of free formaldehyde, which can be harmful to both animals and humans handling the feed, and may also create compliance risks in certain export markets.
In a new article published in Aquafeed, Vol. 17, Issue 3 (July 2025), Borregaard presents side-by-side trial results comparing a new, sustainable pellet binder Intact Aqua and PMC.
The trial, carried out at a commercial feed mill, demonstrates how Intact Aqua delivers:
- Comparable or improved water stability at low inclusion rates
- Significant energy savings and higher throughput during pelleting
- Compliance with global regulatory standards
