Sustainable research in a varied working day

Prajin Joseph is one of many talented Researchers at Borregaard. With a PhD in Chemical Process Technology and a strong interest in sustainable industry, the path to Borregaard was a natural one for Prajin.
– I wanted to work in a sustainable, green industry. Since my PhD focused on biorefineries, Borregaard was the perfect fit.

A varied working day
As a researcher at Borregaard, he enjoys a varied workday that combines lab work, production sampling, and larger-scale testing. He also works closely with customers to ensure the research delivers practical value.

– It’s exciting to take findings from the lab and implement them on a larger scale. The collaboration between R&D, marketing, and production makes the job both challenging and educational.

The transition from academia to industry involved a new way of thinking.
– In academia, we often have more time for research projects, whereas in industry, time is a critical factor. You need to learn to take calculated risks and make decisions more quickly, and that’s really exciting, Prajin explains.

Development and work environment
Borregaard places great emphasis on competence development, and Prajin has already had the opportunity to attend several courses and conferences.
– Participating in various programmes related to production technology has given me valuable insights into processes, and leadership courses have helped me develop strong leadership skills.

He greatly appreciates the strong professional environment and supportive colleagues.
– It’s easy to share ideas, and Borregaard is always open to new initiatives. We also have a very friendly working environment.

To those considering applying to Borregaard, Prajin offers this encouragement:
– Just go for it! Borregaard is an amazing place to work with lots of development opportunities. There’s also a high degree of internal mobility, which allows you to take on new challenges without having to change employer.

In his spare time, Prajin enjoys playing padel, travelling, and spending time with friends.
– A good work–life balance is important to me. I feel like I’ve found that at Borregaard.
