The peer-reviewed article describes how to replace 10% phenol with lignosulfonate or kraft lignin in the synthesis of an impregnation phenolic resin. Mechanical properties of the high-pressure laminates bonded with control and lignin-based resins were measured according to ASTM standards.
Phenol replacement with lignosulfonate in High Pressure Decorative Laminates
High-pressure laminates based on sodium lignosulfonate provided better results than those of traditional laminates in ASTM Tensile test. Laminates based on kraft lignin showed a decrease in elastic modulus compared to traditional laminates.
