Exilva BondBuilder
Improve bond strength, reduce delamination and support consistent corrugated board production with Exilva® cellulose fibrils.
Exilva® BondBuilder delivers better board performance
Improve bond quality, reduce rejects and support consistent corrugated board production with Exilva® cellulose fibrils.
Bonding performance plays a critical role in corrugated board quality. Poor bonding can lead to delamination, inconsistent board strength, increased waste and customer complaints. These challenges are particularly pronounced when working with difficult paper grades such as hard-sized materials, SC fluting, kraft liners, fully bleached papers, wax-coated surfaces, and ultra-lightweight papers.
Exilva® BondBuilder is an innovative, biodegradable, bio-based cellulose fibril technology that improves adhesive holdout and bond formation in corrugated board production, supporting stronger board performance, fewer rejects and more consistent manufacturing outcomes.
Bio-based and eco-friendly
100% bio-based and biodegradable. Derived from natural cellulose, Exilva® supports more sustainable corrugating without compromising performance or process stability.
Documented performance
Reinforces bond integrity, reduces delamination, improves strength consistency, and supports stable production.
Compliance
Meets key regulatory requirements, including food contact approvals, and is free from VOCs and hazardous substances.
Technical highlights
- Application: Drop-in, compatible with all starches and corrugating processes – with no CAPEX required and minimal disruption to operations.
- Appearance: White paste
- Mechanism: Exilva forms a three-dimensional fibrillar network that stabilises the adhesive and controls its flow and holdout. This enables uniform glue distribution and stronger, more consistent bonding under varying process conditions.
- How it works: It optimizes adhesive penetration into both the fluting and liner, compensating for differences in porosity between the two paper layers.
Performance snapshot
| Parameter | With Exilva |
| Delamination | Up to 99% post-delamination reduction |
| Waste and rejects | 1-2% reduction |
| Glue consumption | Typically between 15–47% reduction |
| Steam demand linked to lower water load | 5–12% reduction |
Commercial benefits
IMPROVED BOARD STRENGTH AND QUALITY CONSISTENCY
LOWER WASTE AND PRODUCTION COSTS
OPTIMISED USE OF GLUE AND ENERGY
These improvements translate directly into measurable value: less material loss and lower production costs, fewer customer complaints and quality issues, higher yield and improved conversion efficiency
Ultimately, more consistent bonding helps corrugators operate more efficiently, reduce hidden costs, and deliver reliable board quality.
