Borregaard ChemCell

Borregaard has a history of over 100 years as a producer of cellulose. Large technology and environmental investments, together with considerable renewal of the product spectrum, provides a good starting point for Borregaard as a long-term and reliable supplier of specialty cellulose.

Broad spectrum of products

In modern and flexible plants, and through continual product development, Borregaard can deliver a broad spectrum of cellulose qualities with customer specific requirements in purity, viscosity, transparency, density and reactivity. The most important customer categories are producers of cellulose derivatives such as cellulose ethers and esters, acetate cellulose, and microcrystalline cellulose. The products are applied in the construction and oil industries, in the production of foodstuffs, cosmetics, filters, hygiene products and tablets, and also in paints, varnishes and printer's ink. Borregaard also produce cellulose for textile fibres and plastics.

Capacity and flexibility

Borregaard ChemCell has flexible production plants which provide the opportunity for a broad spectrum of products. Through investments in the production plants, Borregaard has secured a foundation of competence, technology and the capacity for further growth within specialty cellulose.

Research and development

Borregaard's competence within chemicals is an excellent starting point for specialty products with qualities which provide added value for customers. Borregaard place great emphasis on market-oriented product development that will provide added value in the processes and products of our customers and your customers. A significant part of our development work therefore happens in collaboration with our customers and participants further down the value chain.

Borregaard's ambition is to be able to broaden the boundaries for cellulose products' qualities and possibilities. This is under way, for instance, in the development of cellulose qualities for new materials and use in foodstuffs.

Bioethanol and base chemicals

Borregaard use the sugar compounds in timber to produce bioethanol. The products are high quality and used when high standards of purity are required, such as in the production of medicines and in chemico-technical applications such as biofuels, car care agents, detergents, paints and varnishes.

Borregaard also produces lye, hydrochloric acid and bleaching chemicals that are used in production or for external sale.
